In this season SOLI celebrated its 20th year and were the Winners of the 2013 Chamber Music America and ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award. They did a number of collaborations with local art museums: SAMA, Gallery Nord, and the McNay. At Gallery Nord they performed a three-part concert series, with each performance titled Past, Present, and Future. This season SOLI was one of nine Artists in Residency for the reopening of the Tobin Center. Read about those performances here. This year SOLI also dropped an album of previous commissions to celebrate this two decade milestone.
In a notable performance, they premiered a piece by Paul Moravec, titled SOLI Collage. Paired with Robert X. Rodriguez’ Musica, por un tiempo, and Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time (two pieces the ensemble has performed many times in its history, this performance was certainly memorable. An article from Classical Voice North America covers this performance beautifully. Read it here.
